Town Hall Meeting on Diabetes and Health Care Disparities–KJLH Live Broadcast
African Americans, with few exceptions, fare the worst in terms of access to healthcare and housing, numbers living in poverty, etc. No matter where they reside in the world, people of African descent are plagued with similar conditions within the global community. The Diabetic Amputation Prevention Foundation will host a panel discussion on health care disparities from a Pan African perspective. The first of its kind in Los Angeles, the Town Hall Meeting will feature experts, both domestic and international, that will discuss global health care trends of people of African descent as well as trade and sustainable economic models to help ameliorate local and international health care issues.
A light, healthy Continental breakfast will be served. Also, free heath screenings will be held February 9-11 and February 16-19 at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza.

Black Hollywood Speaks Against HIV/AIDS
Gil Robertson heads a panel of prominent celebrities addressing the issue of HIV/AIDS. Five excerpts will be read from NIMF reflecting a different segment of the community. The audience will have the opportunity to participate and respond. An open spoken word/poetry period is planned featuring local artists speaking on the subject of HIV/AIDS. The panel will conclude with a book signing and reception by Mr. Robertson.

The film will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Bay Area Filmmaker, Jacquie Taliaferro, co-founder of the Agora@Cannes Film Series held annually in Cannes, France. The panel, which will include actress Rae Dawn Chong and labor leader Maria Elena Durazo (featured in The New Los Angeles will focus on the growing tension between Browns and Blacks with emphasis on how the media can be play an important role in bringing about tolerance and peace. It is hoped that this panel will help start this movement. All are welcome to join this discussion. The panel will be followed by a screening of The New Los Angeles, which focuses on issues of race, labor and immigration in the City of Angels.
